赴任先の工業高校について
さて、仕事の話をしたところで次に僕の職場である学校についても書くことにしましょう。
僕の赴任先はセントポール工業高校。イースタン州アキムのククラントゥミというところにあります。
首都アクラからトロトロと呼ばれる乗り合いバスで3時間くらいです。
ガーナが独立した1957年創立の工業高校で現在、「電気電子工学」「自動車工学」「機械工学」「木工学」「建築」の5つのコースがあります。
Now I’ll show you about my assignment school.
The name of my assignment school is “St. Paul Technical School”, located in Kukurantumi, a town of Eastern region. It’s about 3 hours from Accra by omnibus, called Trotro.
It is a technical school established in 1957, Ghana’s independence year and It has five learning course, “electrical engineering”, “auto mobile engineering”, “mechanical engineering”, “carpentry and joinery”, and “building and construction”.

全校生徒は約1000人。「電気電子工学」コースでは現在「太陽光発電技術」指導を目指して準備を進めています。
しかし、ガーナでは「太陽光発電技術」を指導できる教員の採用が難しいそうです。
そのため僕はボランティアとして、この工業高校で「太陽光発電技術」教育立ち上げのアシストをする立場にあります。
因みに、ここセントポール工業高校は過去1987から2000年にかけて13年、日本人のボランティアを受け入れており、僕はこの学校では14年ぶり、6人目のボランティアとなります。
The number of students in this school is about 1000. Now the teachers in electrical engineering are preparing for teaching solar energy system but they say it’s difficult for school to employ a specialist of solar energy system in Ghana, so as a volunteer in this school, I will assist the teachers in learning it and teaching to students.
By the way, this school received 5 Japanese volunteer from 1987 to 2000, in 13 years and I am a sixth volunteer after an interval of 14 years.

この右の方が本学校の校長のベンさん。
ベンさんは過去日本で研修を受けていたことがあり、その当時は香川県に住んでいて、栗林公園がお気に入りの場所だとか。
今でも当時こちらで働いていたボランティアとインターネットを使って交流しており、日本語も一部覚えています。
「いいですか。」「ちょっと待ってください。」「大丈夫ですか。」など、いつも声をかけてくれます。
2年間、お互い頑張っていきましょう！
The right person of this photo is Ben, the principal of this school. He has been to Japan and he received some training in Kagawa Prefecture. His favorite place in Japan is Ritsurin garden( he told me “Ritsurin Kouen”), one of the most famous historical gardens in Japan..
He communicates the Japanese volunteers working here at that time on the web and knows some Japanese popular phrases. He always talks to me, like “Iidesuka? (Are you sure?)”, “Choto Mattekudasai (I’m coming!)”, “Daijoubudesuka? (Are you OK?)”
Soldier on this 2 years, Ben-san!!
