さて先のブログで、授業開始の報告をしましたが

所属長の腰の骨が痛いということで急遽水曜に延期、

そして2/11、ついに活動第一歩となる太陽電池講義を開始しました。

場所は学校のコンピュータールームをお借りして行いました。

今回初めてということでまずは10日間、

先生たちの授業時間を配慮して、学校の授業終了後１時間（午後３時～４時）にてスタートしました。

My last blog, I posted about my solar lectures that would start on this Monday.

However, due to the bone pain of the supervisor in our department at that time, I had to postpone my first lecture until today, Feb 11^th.

Actually, I could start it at the computer room.

To take account for the teacher’s works, I planned 10days lecture and set about 1hour each after school, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.

ホワイトボードにスケジュール等書き込み準備はOK。ちゃんと先生来てくれるかな…と部屋に呼びに行ったら、「今から行くとこだよ」との返事。

授業前に大雨が降りだし、１人来ることができませんでしたが、

最終的に電子科の先生９人中８人参加という、いい滑り出しでした。

まずは今回の目標であるBEN Project（前回のブログ参照）について、改めて説明。

出てくるのはやはり太陽光発電システムにかかるお金の話。

現時点で赴任先の学校の本プロジェクトに関する予算はありません。

先生方が学校で実施したい太陽光発電授業のあり方に加えて、

ソーラーシステムを使って学校がいかに利益をあげていくかも

このプロジェクトの焦点になります。

I wondered if the teachers would not come, so I went to a workshop in my department for them. After all, they were there and replied that they were going soon.

During my lecture, it rained a lot so one of the teachers could not come, but finally 8 out of 9 teachers came to take my lecture. We got off to a good start!!

At first, I explained our objective, BEN Project again and they asked me where we could get money to install a big solar system. Now my school doesn’t have a budget of this solar project.

Both the way to teach solar system and make a profit through the system are the importance of this project.

先に書き忘れていましたが、

ガーナの主要電力は水力発電であり、ダムの水がなくなると発電できません。

そのためガーナの電力会社は地域ごとに意図的に停電させ、電気の量を調整しています。

私の赴任先は２日に１回１２時間の停電があります。

そのため、停電時に電気を扱うサービスはビジネスになりうるのです。

そして青年海外協力隊には活動を通して「現地の人々の自助努力を促進する」という方針があります。

これは現地の人々に「援助に頼らず自分たちで考え何とかしていこう」という姿勢を育てること、

いわゆる「独り立ち」できるようにアシストすることです。

自分たちで太陽光発電システムをメンテナンスし、

利益を上げ拡張していけるというのが本プロジェクトの醍醐味。

みんな興味津々で聞いてくれたことが、本日の一番の収穫でした。

明日もみんな来てくれるといいなと願いつつ。

By the way, I forgot to tell you that the main power source in Ghana is hydroelectric so it cannot generate electricity if the dam becomes dry. Therefore, Ghana Electronics Company controls the amount of electricity in Ghana.

We cannot use electricity for a half day in 2 days in our assignment place so we have a possibility to do business with solar system.

You know, JICA, our volunteer group, has a policy that we volunteers should promote the own effort of the local people through our activities. It means that we should assist their attitude that they try to solve problems by themselves, as it were, being independent..

I think the pleasure of this project is that they become able to maintain and extend their solar system by themselves.

I was truly glad that they took my lecture earnestly today.

I wish all of them, 9 people, will come to take my lecture tomorrow. :)
