昨日は新たに赴任された隊員さんがドミトリーにやってきました。
「ガーナにようこそ」という方もいれば、1人だけ「ガーナにおかえりなさい」というシニアボランティアの方が。

その方は僕にとって「レジェンド」ともいうべき人。
名前は榎本さん。彼は今の僕の赴任先の初代協力隊員だった人なのです！

およそ30年近く前のこと、榎本さんは今の僕の赴任先で電子工学を教える先生としてボランティア活動をしていました。
因みにその頃は僕が所属している電子科は、まだありませんでした。

Today, new volunteers came to our volunteer dormitory.
Almost all of them may feel "Welcome to Ghana volunteer" at this visit, but only one person must feel welcome "back" Ghana!

Yes, he is the "legend" Ghana volunteer for me.
His name is Mr. Enomoto and he was the first volunteer to work for my assignment school!

Long time about 30 years ago…
Mr.Enomoto (Enomoto-san) taught electronics in Saint Paul technical school as a Japanese volunteer.
At that time, the school didn't have the electronic department that I join now.

そして、その時の教え子が現在校長のベンさんでした。
榎本さんは当時助手をしていたベンさんを教育し、自身がガーナを離れても将来ベンさんがガーナの教育を背負っていけるよう望んでいたのです。

ベンさんはその後、榎本さんの誘いもあり日本に研修にやってきました。
日本での10ヶ月の研修を終え、ガーナに戻ったベンさんは勤勉に働き続け、そして時を経て赴任先の学校の校長先生になったのです。


Mr. Benjamin (Ben-san), the principal in this school now, was his pupil as an education assistant.
Enomoto-san taught his skill to Ben-san at that time and he wished that Ben-san would bear the future of education in Ghana.

After his volunteer work, Ben-san visited Japan with Enomoto-san offer and received some training there.
He studied hard and also enjoyed Japanese culture for 10 months, then came back Ghana.
Afterwards he worked hard at the school then finally, he became the principal of the school.

僕はガーナ赴任時のホームステイでベンさんから日本のカレーをご馳走になったことがあり、その時、榎本さんの話を聞きました。
「榎本さんは当時の僕の先生で今でも連絡をとりあっている。そして彼は来年3月にガーナにボランティアとして帰ってくるかもしれない。」


「そんなことってあるの?!」
その後、榎本さんがJICA二本松の訓練生活にガーナ赴任隊員として参加していることを知り、彼のガーナへの帰還が現実になると感じました。
赴任先の大先輩がガーナに帰ってくる！
そんなワクワクを胸に、昨日その出会いが現実になったのです。


Last year, in home stay, he has served me Japanese curry and told me this nostalgic story.
Enomoto-san has sent him Japanese food and the curry was one of them.
"Enomoto-san is still my teacher and I have communicated with him for a long time. He told me that he might come back Ghana as a volunteer in March."

"Oh, is it possible to visit Ghana again as a volunteer!?"

After the homestay, I found out that Enomoto-san joined a training course at Nihonmatsu Training Center and I felt the dream would come true.
"Wow, the first volunteer will come back!!"
I have been excited about his return for several months and eventually I met him yesterday, I mean the dream came true!

因みに今日はカウンターパートのベンさんも榎本さんにドミトリーまで会いに来て、その後３人一緒に会食をしました。
写真は撮り忘れましたが、それはもう長いブランクを感じさせないほど、お2人は仲良く話をしていました。
今回の活動は僕の赴任先と異なるので一緒に活動できるわけではありませんが、何らかの機会でコラボレートしようという話になりました。

先輩も帰ってきたことだし、新たな気持ちで活動を頑張っていきますよー！


Today Ben-san came to see Enomoto-san and me, then we went out and had lunch together.
I forgot to take their pictures but they enjoyed talking very much in spite of long period.
By the way, his assignment school is far from our school at this time, so we don't work together directly but we try to find a chance to collaborate each other.

It has been 6 months, a quarter of my volunteer term, since I visited Ghana, and I will work as much as I can here!
