赴任先の"先輩"協力隊員について。
さて僕はこのセント・ポール工業高校inガーナの14年ぶり6人目の日本人ボランティアなのですが、校舎内には過去の青年海外協力隊員が残していったものがいろいろあります。
「青山さんへ 不良個所を点検してください」これは２代目隊員の末信さんから３代目隊員の青山さんへの伝言のようです。結構ほこりをかぶってました。今からざっと20年以上前のもの。
I am the sixth Japanese volunteer in St.Paul technical school after an interval of 14 years, and I could find something that ex-volunteers left here.
“To Mr.Aoyama please check fault parts inside” It looks like a message from Mr.Suenobu, the second volunteer to Mr.Aoyama, the third volunteer. This message was written about 20 years ago.

これはワープロの取扱説明書に挟み込まれていました。日本の有識者への手紙でしょうか。(ワープロというところに時代を感じました)
太陽光発電導入において「いろは」は僕も気になるところです。
こうやって協力隊活動に関してアレコレ考えるのは、いつの時代も同じですね。
This is a letter inserted in documents. It must be addressed to a specialist in Japan.
I want to find out the “ABC” to introduce solar energy system, too.
It is same in all ages to worry a lot.

そして一番驚いたのがこの和英辞典。なんと備品棚の奥にありました。
そしてそこには4代目隊員有吉さんの名前が。
5代目隊員三柴さんのために置いて行ったのでしょうか。
結局三柴さんは受け取らなかったのか、それとも後任のためにしまったのか、日付からして、この辞書は20年近く備品棚の奥にいたことになります。
辞書は重たいので「必要になったら買おう」と思い、持ってこなかったですが、このことを同僚に話したら「誰も使わないから持っていっていいよ！」とのことで、この和英辞書をもらってきました。
この辞書は時を超えて先輩隊員からもらったプレゼントのようで、もらった時はとてもうれしく感じました。
The thing that I was surprised the most was this Japanese-English dictionary I found in the back of an old shelf at my office.
In addition, I found the name, Mr.Ariyoshi, the forth volunteer, on the last page of the dictionary. I wonder if this dictionary was left for Mr.Mishiba, the fifth volunteer.
I don’t know whether Mr.Mishiba accepted this dictionary or not, put here for a next volunteer or not…but this is the fact that it was in this shelf for about 20 years.
Actually, I didn’t bring my dictionary from Japan due to the heavy weight and thought I would buy an English- English dictionary in Ghana. After I talked about this situation to my colleague, he allowed me to take it because they didnot use it.
I felt happy because it was like a present from ex-volunteer beyond the long year.

そんな先輩たちの活動の"足跡"を見ると、今先輩方がどこにいてどんな人生を送っているのかとても気になります。
このブログを過去の先輩方が目にしてくれていて返事をくれるとといいな！と思っています。
As I found those footprints in this school, now I’m concerned where they live and how they enjoy their life.
I hope they check this blog and reply somewhere in the world!
