先週水曜の昼10時より、赴任先の学校でガーナの有名な電線生産メーカーを呼んでのトークショーが行われました。

この会社はガーナで創業し40年以上の歴史がある会社。

途中フランスの大手に買収されたこともあり、生産設備はドイツ製の立派なものと紹介していました。

また品質管理にも気を使っており、ガーナで有名な一流ホテルの配線にも使われているくらいのクオリティの高さ。

なるほど、途上国ではあるけれど、きちっと条件を整えてあげれば良い製品ができるんだなと実感。

(もちろん、これは僕の活動にも言えるわけですが...)

Last Wednesday at 10:00am, A talk-show about electronic wire was held in my school by a popular company in Ghana.

The company was established in Ghana over 40 years ago.

It was sold by a company in French 20 years ago and the manufacture equipment in the factory became much better.

They emphasize quality control, so it helps to get a good customer.

I feel that Ghanaian can make good quality products if they are trained in a good situation.

先生、生徒みんな興味津々で聞いていました。（もちろん僕も。）

Students and teachers looked interested in the talk show, including me.

そして今回のトークショーには州の役所の電気関連の代表の方がこられていて、

こんなことを話していました。

「ここの会社はとてもいい。なぜなら品質のいいメイドインガーナ、

そしてグローバル企業だから。

でもガーナの人々は他国、たとえば中国の製品を選んでしまう。

なぜなのか。それは中国製品のほうが安くそしてガーナの製品は質が悪いと思っているからだ。

だからガーナ人は他国のものばっかり使いたがる！」

At this time, A representive, in charge of electricity in our region, came this show and said at the stage,

"This is a really good company.

This company is world-wide and produces good wires.

However, Ghanaian always buys other country product, like China.

Why??

They must think that made in China is cheap and made in Ghana does not have good quality, so Ghanaian want to use other country’s products."

そんな発言の後に「たか!たか!」という生徒のささやき声がどこからともなく聞こえてきます。(笑)

そりゃ確かに日本という他国から来た人間ではあるけども。

"Taka!…Taka!…"

I heard their whisper voice after his comment…haha.

Yes, right. I'm a foreigner from Japan in this school..mmm.

その後、質疑応答に移り

「中国製品に対して御社の製品のコストは明らかに高いがそれに対してどう考えているのか？」

という質問があったり、

「そもそも電線の導電性が他の品よりも低く良いというが、実際の店で確かめる方法はあるのか？」

という質問があったり。

After the talk show, they moved to Q"&"A section.

A teacher asked a question, “Your Company’s product is more expensive than ordinal market product, like China. What do you think about that?”

A student also asked another question, ”You explained the product has a good quality, like conductivity but can I check that characteristics in a market?”

返答をまとめると、

「品質が他の製品に比べて良いためにそれに応じて高い。

品質の良いケーブルを使ってほしい。

市場にはまがいものも出回っているので、お店でメーカーを確認して購入してほしい。

とのことでした。

I summarize the answer.

They replied,

"It’s natural that our product is more expensive because of the good quality.

I want you to use a good quality cable in a construction.

Some imitation products are available in market now

so please check the source of the products!"

品質が高いものを使ってほしいというのは、かつて製造の現場にいた僕としても同感。

そして今日思い知ったのは自国産のものでさえ、

品質が良くても高いと使ってくれないということ。

I sympathized with his idea “To use a good quality product”

because I worked in a factory when I was in Japan.

And I realized that Ghanaian don’t use good product made in Ghana

if it is expensive.

コストと品質の両立は難しい問題です。

ただ、彼らの収入が上げることができれば高品質のものを考えるようになるはず。

そう信じて、これからも少しずつ地道に先生に教えていきます。

It’s very difficult to value both low cost and high quality,

but they may buy high quality item if they get a sufficient salary.

I believe it and I will keep teaching teachers day by day.
