さて、ガーナでは4/3～4/6までイースター休暇という４連休があります。
さすがにこの間、先生方は旅行に行ったりしていて学校にはいません。
では僕はどうしていたかというと、同期の隊員たちとクマシ技術短期大学に行っていました。
先週月曜に太陽電池システムの打ち合わせをしていたのでほぼ2週間ぶりですが、
今回は学校で技術指導をしている、ろうけつ染め（バティック）の体験を同期隊員としてきました。


In Ghana, We have Easter holidays from April 3 to 6, there is not in Japan!
Most of the teachers went traveling on the holidays and I went to Kumasi Polytechnic again!!

I was there last week because of my solar project meeting, however, this time is not for it, but leisure, batik trial lesson with my Japanese friends being on the same volunteer period.
In this school, there is a dress designer course and the teacher taught us how to produce batik cloth.

知ってる方も多いと思いますが、ろうけつ染めはまず溶かした蝋をハンコにつけ、ポンポンと布に模様をつけます。


On batik process, at first, dip a wooden stamp in melting hot wax, then stamp on a white cloth again and again.

そしてその後に染料で色付けします。


After that, dye the cloth and dry.

そうすると蝋の模様部分は水をはじくためそこだけ染まらないわけです。
そして沸騰したお湯に入れて蝋を溶かすことでその部分が生地の模様として現れます。


Because of the water-repellent effect of wax, the stamp area on the cloth doesn't dye.
Finally, wash the cloth in boiled water to melt the wax and we can see the clear pattern on the cloth.

僕らは午前中、クマシ技術短期大学に来訪し、皆でスタンプ押しをして、バティック体験を楽しみました。


We visited Kumasi Polytechnic in the morning and enjoyed stamping!!

そして残りの作業をスタッフさんにお願いし帰宅しました。
生地が出来上がるのには数日かかるとのこと。
どんな生地になるのか楽しみです。


After some activity, we asked the staffs to keep doing works, then we left the school.
They said it takes several days to finish their batik work.
We are looking forward to the batik cloth!!

また、ガーナは近くの街に行けば必ず１軒はテーラー（仕立て屋さん）がいて、生地を持って行ってお金を払えば服を作ってもらえます。
ガーナの服の話もまたどこかでお話ししましょう。


By the way, there is at least one tailor in a town.
When we bring a cloth, they can make our original wear, like shirt, pants and their traditional one!
