10月10日にセルビアの第3都市であるNišにてJapanNišという日本文化に触れるイベントがありました。今回、セルビア・日本大使館の依頼のもとJICA海外協力隊の剣道隊員である私とNišで柔道隊員として活動している小川くんとイベントに参加し、日本武道である剣道と柔道をみなさんに講演してきました。

今回はその内容を書いていきたいと思います。

That event called JapanNiš was held in Niš on October 10th. Niš is the third biggest city in Serbia. I and Kogawa who works as a JUDO trainer joined this event and introduced about the japanese martial arts at the request of Serbia-Japan Embassy.

今回の講演会では、総勢約30名弱の参加者が参加してくださり、大変盛り上がる講演会となりました。講演内容には、剣道の成り立ちから現在の競技化された剣道、セルビア剣道の実績を紹介させていただきました。みなさんセルビア剣道が如何に強いのかを聞いて驚かれ、今後も継続して剣道を発信していく意義を再認識いたしました。

他にも、日本剣道形の実演や実際に面を打ってみる体験をしていただきました。

みなさん初めてとは思えない鋭い打突をしていて私やサポートとして来てくれたラストコは驚きました。

柔道隊員の小川くんも柔道の歴史、柔道の技の実演と試合形式の稽古を見せてくれました。

ダイナミックな技と力強い投げを間近で見て、畳の上でやらなくて痛くないの？って思っちゃいました。後に聞いたところ、これぐらいの衝撃吸収剤があれば余裕とのこと。

さすが武道隊員だなと思いました。

There were around 30 participants at this event. It was very exciting. I talked about the origin of KENDO, the conpetition of KENDO and the achievement in Serbia KENDO. They were very surprised to hear how Serbia kendo is strong. I realized again that it is important to continue spreading the word about KENDO in the future.

After that, I showed perticipants "NIHON KENDO KATA" and let them try "Men" in person.

I and Rastko who supported me were surprised their hits. Because their hits was much sharper and storoger than we thought.

Kogawa, as a JUDO trainer tought us JUDO's history. And he showed us JUDO's WAZA and competition style practice.

I got to see his dynamic WAZA and strong shoulder throw very close up. I thought "Don't you need to do it on TATAMI? Doesn't it hurt?" I heard him later. He said that it's easy for us to have such a cushioning material.

He was just as expected.

今回のイベントでは英語での講演となりました。経験してみて感じたことは、めちゃくちゃ難しいなってことです。普段の稽古でも英語を用いての活動なのですが、みなさんすでに剣道を稽古されている方が指導対象なので、多少文章や表現が間違っていてもわかってもらえます。しかし、今回の参加者は剣道を見たことがないという方が大半だったため、本当に伝えることができたのだろうか？という反省点が残りました。

今回、依頼してくださったセルビア・日本大使館の方々、招待してくださった運営側の皆様本当に貴重な機会をくださりありがとうございました。

次回は、今回の反省も踏まえてもっと良いプレゼンを行いますので今後ともよろしくお願いします。

I spoke in English at this event. It was very challenging for me.

Usually I speak in English as a practice. Most of the trainees at KENDO understand what I mean even when I miss some vocabularies or grammar.

However this time was different, because most of the participants were not familiar with KENDO. I was not sure if they could understand what I wanted to say.

I'm thankful for this valuable oppotunity which Serbia-Japan Embassy and organizers gave me.

Based on this experience, I will definitely give a better presentation next time.

Lastly, I appreciate Rastko for helping me. It wouldn't be this successful, if he hadn't been there.
